OFLAG Art Show Scheduled for April 1 & 2, 2016

A brief history of the Old Fort Lowell Artist Group:

Bob Brisley and Michael Bell, both painters living in the Fort Lowell Historic District, began meeting once a week for coffee and conversation about art. Four years ago they agreed to jointly stage an art show at the San Pedro Chapel. A couple of years later they decided to hold another exhibition, but this time wanted to expand to include some new talent. So they issued a “Call to Artists” within the neighborhood hoping for a couple of comrades willing to participate.

Unexpectedly, there ended up being almost twenty responses from other artists living in the Fort Lowell neighborhood. That group created the “Old Fort Lowell Artists Group” (OFLAG) and Carol Parker, photographer and founding member, designed the group’s website.  Twelve participants displayed work in the first OFLAG Art Show, held in September of 2014.

The second art show is in the planning and the participating artists have now been selected. The show will be held April 1 – 2, 2016, again at the San Pedro Chapel. This year’s show is comprised of three painters, and three photographers, and an “Honored Artist of the Year”. A new feature this year is the addition of a “Guest Artist”. Patty Hosmer, a fine art photographer, will be showing images from her western horse and lifestyle portfolio.

If you live in the Old Fort Lowell Neighborhood and you are interested in knowing more about the artist group and art shows, please take a look at the web site at  ( or google “Old Fort Lowell Artist Group”.

Save the date and watch this site as it reflects the newest work submitted by this year’s artists.

The Fort Lowell Historic District in Tucson has a long and rich tradition of attracting artists to the area. Seduced by its laid back charm and rural ambience, creative individuals have populated the neighborhood for decades.

In keeping with that tradition, a core group of contemporary resident artists are banding together to form the Old Fort Lowell Artists Group. The group is now organizing its first event – a collective art exhibition to be presented in the Fort Lowell neighborhood’s historic adobe San Pedro Chapel on Friday and Saturday, September 19 and 20.

Twelve artist members of the OFLAG will be displaying an eclectic collection of work that includes paintings, sculpture, photographic and digital art, weavings, quilts, and jewelry. It is quite astonishing to see so much artistic talent clustered in such a small geographical area.

An artists’ reception will be held in conjunction with the show’s opening on Friday evening from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. Wine and nibbles will be provided by the Old Fort Lowell Neighborhood Association and live music performed by Matt Mitchell, a renowned local jazz and classical guitarist. A lively crowd of host artists and artisans will be present and delighted to share and discuss their work. All artwork will be offered for sale

The event is free and open to the public. Please join in to give this fledgling organization a rousing welcome to the neighborhood.
